Top 5 observations from Ebertfest Day 1

Post by Champaign411  |  Thursday, April 22 @ 9:16am

  1. Governor Pat Quinn showing up to declare Wednesday as Ebertfest Day in Illinois. Long-winded but sincere, not bad for a politician.
  2. The precise, hilarious scene in You, The Living when a man (in his dream) attempts to pull a tablecloth out from under roughly 300 pounds of fine china.
  3. The songs Mother, Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2), and Comfortably Numb in Pink Floyd The Wall, three Floyd songs as beautiful as any songs recorded by any rock band. Even Eleanor Rigby.
  4. The moderators/critics attempting to discuss the narrative in The Wall. That's a discussion for a dorm room. The only reason this movie has held up enough to make it to a film festival 28 years after release is the music, pure and simple.
  5. The off-putting "far flung" guest critic discussing The Wall. A huge guy sporting a big, white mustache, who went to the trouble of showing up in shorts and flipflops, copped a silly, superior tone while making fun of Pink Floyd music. Supposedly this guy was an amateur musician at some point in his life, so he had proper license—yikes. Think a tighter screening process may be needed next year.
