Edison Middle School, formerly Champaign High School... a bit of history

Post by Champaign411  |  Friday, September 11 @ 3:25pm

Now known as Edison Middle School, this "Imposing Greek" beaux arts classical revival building opened in 1914 as Champaign High School. Located at 306 West Green Street, across State Street from the Champaign Public Library, it served as the town's high school for 42 years. In 1957, it became Edison Junior High. Designed by Spencer and Temple, the building is made of Bedford stone and features brick work with tapestry design in dark brown color with terra cotta cornices, with decorated classical motifs around the top of the structure. It is one of two public middle schools in Champaign.
