Parkland College

Parkland College, a community college located in Champaign, is a fully accredited, public community college that delivers vocational-technical and academic instruction to District 505, the third largest community college district in Illinois. Since opening in 1967, Parkland has become a center for educational opportunity and community enrichment and has earned a national reputation for excellent academic standards, innovative programs, and quality instruction. In 2008, the college was selected by the U.S. Department of Education's "Community Colleges Can!" project as one of the initiative's 12 initial mentor colleges. Built on 233 acres of landscaped grounds, the college's facilities include more than 85 classrooms, 60 specialized labs, an FM radio station, a public access educational TV station, an experimental agricultural land laboratory and greenhouse, a community-supported art gallery, and excellent physical education and recreation facilities, including a fitness center. Its cultural center contains a 320-seat performing arts theater and a 50-foot dome planetarium (shown at left), the second largest in Illinois.
