Established in 1970, Papa Del's pizzeria has become perhaps the most beloved restaurant at the University of Illinois. Now located at 206 E. Green on the west end of Campustown, the thick-crust Papa Del's pies have legions of fans among students, faculty, and community members alike. When returning to campus for weekend visits, many alumni rank Papa Del's as the one can't-miss stop on the trip. In addition to the tasty pizza, owner Bob Monti has seen success by staying ahead of the curve--banning in-restaurant smoking before the non-smoking laws were enacted and eliminating preservatives in his food.
