Illini NIT-bound

After beating highly ranked Wisconsin and taking top-5 team Ohio State to overtime in the Big Ten Tournament, many believed the Illini men's basketball team was comfortably no longer on the bubble to make or miss the 2010 NCAA Tournament. As revealed late Sunday afternoon, not only were they still on the bubble, but it burst completely as the brackets were revealed with no I-L-L, no I-N-I, and no Bruce Weber-coached team in the 65-squad field. Instead, the disappointed ballers will head to the NIT Tournament for the first time since 1996. A No. 1 seed in one of four eight-team brackets, the Illini start the tourney with a road game at Stony Brook thanks to a scheduling conflict at Assembly Hall.
