Lincoln the Lawyer

Completed by sculptor Lorado Taft in 1927, the "Lincoln the Lawyer" statue originally was located in front of the Urbana-Lincoln Hotel but was soon moved to Carle Park in central Urbana. This bronze masterpiece is one of the most famous Lincoln statues in the United States. At its dedication ceremony, speaker William Barton said, "This statue shows Abraham Lincoln as Urbana saw him, in the days when he stood at the bar of justice in the court house yonder, or spoke at political meetings in the court house square." It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Take a photo tour around town.
