Blind Pig Brewery

When the first pint of original brew was served in November 2009, the Blind Pig Brewery became Champaign-Urbana's only current establishment brewing and serving its own beer. According to www.blindpigco.com: "Unlike most breweries, in which a tap room is added to an existing brewery, here we've added a brewery to an existing bar. Which means that the equipment is custom built, and explains the unusual layout, with tanks being pushed into all four corners of the room. Our brewery features authentic architectural antiques, including the back bar, which is one of only a handful of unmodified antebellum bars left. Built in 1859, it came from Tipton, PA. People were drinking at it before Lincoln became president! The 200-year-old hand-hewn oak beams are from a barn on Dan Miner's farm on Bloomington Road. Dan notes that his grandfather built the barn in the late 1800's with beams that were salvaged from a (then) 100- year-old barn in Indiana and brought to Champaign by horse drawn cart. And the booths and elliptical tables are from Svoboda's Nickleodeon Tavern, which opened in Chicago in 1908." The Blind Pig Brewery is located at 120 North Neil Street in Downtown Champaign.
